If they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire.

I am a Michael Bolten fan. For my money, it doesn't get better than when he sings When A Man Loves A Woman.

Me either - it's kind of like Dilbert, one of those things that gets even funnier once you have worked some place like that.
Bob Slydell: You see, what we're trying to do is get a feeling for how people spend their time at work so if you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?

Peter Gibbons: Yeah.

Bob Slydell: Great.

Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh - after that I sorta space out for an hour.

Bob Porter: Da-uh? Space out?

Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

My friend was trying to explain the "ISO 9000" process at his workplace; something about the workers telling the ISO guys what they are doing at work, and then proving that they are doing it. So I guess if you tell them your job is to sit back, read porno mags, and feel your butt grow, and you can prove you are doing just that, you're set!

Back on topic, TomSpeed seems to have paused just shy of the 1K mark. I only mention it because with Lanceman getting lost in Tornado Alley or wherever, who will put Megs in her place?

:-P

Hello, 1,000!

You had to mention me....

I've been sidelined because of a little heart attack. Don't worry. The doctors fixed me. The hardest thing for me is adjusting to not smoking after lighting up for most of my adult life. I have to adjust though. The doctors mentioned that smoking was bad for me. Yea, smoking and rabid cholesterol are a little bad for the heart.

:shocked!:

Holy crap, Tom! How are you doing? I guess congratulating on hitting 1000 seems a bit...anti-climactic? My dad had to quit smoking cold turkey when he got cancer, so good luck with kicking the habit. Not to sound like your mom, but take care of yourself man!

From TomSpeed's profile:
Occupation: stock broker
Interests: ... attractive young women
So, that in mind, plus the heart attack and quittin' the smokes, perhaps now is not the best time to mention the Dow dropping below 10,000...

Just breathe dude! We already called the paramedics.

:yikes:

Seriously, jeepers! Get well soon, then get your ass back here.

:D

Oh my g-d, Tom! I'm sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself! My dad had to quit cold turkey, too, after his heart attack. Get well soon!

I'm doing fine. In fact, I'm going back to work tomorrow. One of my doctors told me I could go back to work within a week since I "drive a desk." My boss told me to take as much time as I wanted. However, the suits at work would wonder why I wanted more than a week off since my doctor would probably tell them a week was enough. Well, it would be different if I was still in pain. Thankfully, I'm not in any pain. I'm both looking forward to and dreading the morning. There's some heart damage, but things could have been much worse.

Glad to hear that all things considered you are doing all right. I hope things go smoothly with health and work. Your startling news is an extra push for me to quit smoking too. There seems to be no shortage of reasons to quit and the fact that it's hard to quit has been my best reason no to so far. I guess I'll have to buck up and cut them out. Good luck to you and take care of yourself.

Wow....... TomSpeed - sorry to hear that!
Hope you make a full and swift recovery and get back to the main game soon.
I was kind of wondering why you weren't quite as prolific a poster as in times past - I'd say you've got a pretty good excuse :(

I hear you both on the smokes; I've been trying to quit for years and usually manage til I go out to the pub.... a moment of weakness and then it's all too late. I did buy Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking book and it worked. But then I gave it to my cousin (she *really* needed it - asthma + smoking = hospital) as I thought I was cured. Then I needed the book as I could feel myself cracking, and didn't have it. I think I will take Mr. S up on his offer of buying me a new copy.
