Danes joining 'The Flock' for shepherd Lau
By Borys Kit
Claire Danes is in final negotiations to star alongside Richard Gere in "The Flock," Bauer Martinez's thriller being directed by Andrew Lau.
"Flock" follows a hypervigilant federal agent (Gere) who is training his young female replacement (Danes). The two must track down a missing girl who might be connected to a paroled sex offender under investigation.
Hans Bauer and Craig Mitchell wrote the script.
Bauer Martinez's Philippe Martinez will serve as producer on the film along with Elie Samaha, Jenette Kahn, Adam Richman and Lau. The budget is pegged in the $35 million range.
"Claire Danes brings a sensitivity and power to the role of a young agent being mentored by Richard Gere's character," Martinez said. "This is a key role in the film, and Andrew, Richard and I are thrilled to have an actress of Claire's talent playing the part."
Danes stars in "Shopgirl" -- directed by Anand Tucker and based on the Steve Martin novella -- which premieres Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival and is set to open Oct. 21. She also appears with Diane Keaton, Rachel McAdams and Sarah Jessica Parker in Thomas Bezucha's upcoming ensemble film "The Family Stone."
