If there is another thread about this, forgive me, I couldn't find it, but I just can't help myself I'm so excited!

I'm getting my first car in just two and a half weeks. I mean, I drove a car in high school, but it wasn't really all my own, to myself. I never called it "my car." It was my parents' car that I drove. But this one is MINE! I can't wait. My parents are bringing it down to me here at school when they come for my last orchestra concert.

My car is a black '94 Honda Accord, four-door, stick-shift, with a 3CD player and absolutely no rust. I can fit my string bass in it! I think it has something like 130K miles, but that's fine. Honda's last for a while. So yeah I'm super excited!

What was your first car? What do you drive now? What's your dream car? Please share!

Nothing wrong with a 94' Honda. I drive a 95' Honda Prelude that I've owned since 97' and its a great car. I have a small bit of rust right around the back wheel well that I need to get fixed. The plastic protector that lines the inside of the rear quarter panel started to come lose and some water has gotten in there and started to work... Get that fixed this summer and a new set of shocks and I'll be set for another 5 years.

My first car:

was a Plymouth.

I had when I was living in Houston working at a movie theater. I loved the car because it was my first. Actually the car sucked as it had a nasty habit of stalling in the middle of busy Houston intersections. D'oh.

Since then I have gone with Toyotas and never looked back. Great cars, I leased for a while but now my wife and I have actually bought a car.

Dream car:

Don't think I have one at the moment, I'll have to get back to you on that one.

My first car was a hand-me-down from my older brother. It was a 1985 four-door, two-toned blue Ford Escort. At the end of it's run (I had it about a year), it had no radio, no heat, no AC, no power-steering, and no emergency brake. My boyfriend at the time (now my husband) couldn't believe that I could drive a car without a radio. I did some of my best thinking alone in that car with no radio! I am surprised it passed inspection. The bets part was that the horn was not on the wheel. Nope. It was a little button that you had to push on the dashboard. Sweet.

When I first got it in the summer, the engine would overheat, so I would have to drive with the heat blasting on my legs. Ouch. That was when I perfected the one-foot-tucked-underneath style of driving. I loved that car. It was very cool with all of my bumper stickers [my favorites were, "Will be President for food", and "Women leaders rule(or something like that, I forget exactly how is was written), You're following one". That last one was funny when my dad or brother would be driving it!]

My next car was one I bought from work colleagues and friends of my dad's for $500.00. It was a 1989 royal blue (but faded) Ford LTD SEDAN. Nice. It had a huge front and back seat ( ), a beautiful interior, a radio, heat and AC, and emergency brake AND power steering. I was in heaven. Until I was the nice sister and let my sister use it while I was waitressing. She wrecked it, and since I had no collision insurance, the car was totaled, and I didn't get another car until I graduated from college and got my first "real"job. That was a Chevrolet Cavalier.

Good times. I didn't get my license until I was 19, and only then b/c I was commuting to college and had to drive.

Oh, the car I drive now is a ( ) Saturn VUE. But I love it.

My dream car? Maybe a luxury sedan, I guess. A Mercedes. I'm not too big on cars.

I've had three cars since I turned 17 years old. My first car was a 1980 Datsun 210, which I bought used from my sister and her husband in 1986. It was a little box of a car, but it ran like a dream for many years. It served me well for my many trips to and from Clemson U. and Jacksonville during my college years. It's death came about because of two accidents this Florida boy had trying to drive in snow and ice in 2001-2. My second car was a 1986 4 Cyl. Ford Mustang. I liked the car, but it cost a boatload of money to maintain. I finally traded up to a 1998 6 Cyl. Mazda 626 in 1998. I still have that car today. I like the roominess and the power, but I'm not really sure I need the room anymore, since my bachelorhood seems more confirmed everyday. My dog likes stretching out in the back seat though.

Cool, one of my mom's old used cars was a blue Datson car with a white top. Ran great, no A/C.

My first car was a red 1987 Nissan Sentra 2 door sedan. It was an awesome car, had only 32k miles on it when I got it in '94 because it was owned by an elderly couple that rarely used it. I would still be driving that car if I wasn't sandwiched between to others (front and back) a few years ago.

Had a few cars in between....

My current car is a black '97 Nissan Sentra 4dr sedan. Bought it new and it is a decent enough car, not nearly as good as my old '87 one, but it does its job.

After this winter (and apparently spring since it is snowing like hell here in NJ today) I have my eyes on getting a truck of some sort for my next car. This car just sucks in the snow. I really want a Honda Element or possibly a Nissan Xterra. Dreamwise I would want maybe a Mercedes truck for the bling bling of it all.

Yep, my Datsun didn't have A/C either. But it had a cassette player. Good times. I remember tooling around with my car loaded up with cassettes. Of course, they were all Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks tapes. My friends would always comment on the lack of variety. My fallback response was the guy who drives chooses the music.

The thing is, living in London you don't really need it. Mr Starbug is a crazed car enthusiast but we can't afford to support his habit so what we have is a 2001 Citroen Saxo VTR in macho black. It's cheap but pretty fast and gets good mileage (about 32 MPG I believe). I can be convinced to drive it where necessary and only outside London. I hate driving it in case I crash, and do myself/someone else/the car some serious damage. It's not my car, I pay nothing towards it and I'd feel terrible for Mr. Starbug if I even scratched the paintwork.

Funny this topic should come up, as Mr. S is currently obsessing about purchasing an MG TF (ultra-cool but still cheap convertible sports car). We can't afford two cars so the Citroen would have to be sold. Which leads me to the main point of contention. Having your only car be a convertible isn't particularly sensible... flash, but not practical. So I began thinking about getting my own car (a rubbish old banger which it wouldn't matter if I crashed). Trouble is, I haven't got the years and years of 'no-claims bonus' on insurance that you need in order to afford to put your car on the road. I'd probably have to pay upwards of £650 a year even for the most value-less clapped out motor in the world. Add to that road tax, petrol prices etc and I just can't afford it.......

I am destined to be sponging off Mr. S's car fund forever.

He could tell you all about the time I bought him a rally-driving day for his birthday and he spun the car through 360 degrees going round the track. He was like 'Did you see, did you see?' I had to admit I couldn't watch... 'You didn't get a picture?'....
