you can tell everybody this is your song

Post by Natasha (candygirl) » May 20th 2005, 3:10 am

Today I was thinking about songs - not just la la la singalong songs, but the songs that make people say, "Awww, that's OUR song." Confession: my boyfriend and I don't have a song, and I was pondering why. It seemed like pre-college, there was usually a song associated with the relationship or boyfriend but once I hit the dorms, that didn't happen anymore. I decided to turn my philosophical reflection into plain nosiness, so tell me any song that has ever been one of your songs and how that song won such a place of honor. One of my previous relationship songs was Unchained Melody because Ghost was the first movie we saw together. I know - awwwwww. Or possibly ewwwww.

Look, if this is weird for you, being tutored? I don't mind helping you a little longer.
You could have sex with me if you really want to help...I guess that's a "no"?

My last girlfriend and I had a two song combo, both by Meat Loaf: "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" and "Paradise by the Dashboard Light." I'm not sure what these songs meant to us. We just liked them. Whenever I hear one of them, I think of her.

Going back a lot further in time..."Gypsy," by Fleetwood Mac. One of my girlfriends during high school reminded me of Stevie Nicks. She had beautiful blond hair, nice body, and was all around sexy. I think of her when I hear "Gypsy." The odd thing was that she wasn't a Stevie or Fleetwood Mac fan.

Graham: And how much of you?
Angela: Dad!
Graham: Oh, I'm sorry! I asked a question about your life, didn't I? Woah, what came over me?

My parents say that Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder is my song. Probably because it was popular when I was born (this song will be my father-daughter song at my wedding reception, though) AWWWWW....

Hmmm... I never liked the idea of having a song to represent my relationship with a boyfriend. I've written a couple of love songs with my current boyfriend as my inspiration, but that's about it. He's also been the inspiration for some pieces I've composed for my composition classes at school. Does that mean anything? He sometimes works in the "Sex and the City" theme into his solos during his jazz band concerts, and I know that's for me. We're music dorks! We wouldn't be able to pick one song if we tried. I think we'd kill each other in the process. ( kidding!)
Um, in my room, one seam is a little off and I stare at it constantly. It's, like, destroying me.

This is kind of cheesy, but my husband and my song is Crazy For You, Madonna. We were dancing to it at a college formal when he first told me he loved me.

Meg, here's some wine...to go with your cheese.

I'm not a big Madonna fan now, but I was into her first three albums and her early soundtrack work. "Crazy for You" was a favorite. She sang it in the movie Vision Quest. I had to look up when it came out. Memories...It came out in 1985. That movie touched me deeply. So did the song.

Anyway, even though having "Crazy for You" as an "our song" is cheesy, I can understand and emphasize.
