What I'm listening to lately: Extraordinary Machine, the new Fiona Apple album that has been finished since May 2003 but is not being released by Sony due to lack of commercial appeal. Who knows if this will ever be officially released, and if so, not anytime soon. But I downloaded the album a few days ago and I've playing it constantly ever since: it is damn amazing. I can see why the label wouldn't want to release it -- no obvious singles -- but I find it pretty extraordinary, as the title suggests. If you liked When the Pawn, go hunting for these songs. They were easy enough to find.

I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.

Just picked up a couple of albums:

Kenny Chesney - Be As You Are
I really like this one, very mellow, great for a drink on the deck or a Saturday afternoon.

Rob Thomas - Something To Be
I'm not that impressed. I've been through it a number of times and nothing grabs me. There are a couple good songs on it though.

I've been on Chris Ledoux kick as of late, not sure why. I just like the rodeo tails I guess.

Rob Thomas doesn't do it for me. I don't like his voice or any of his songs (solo or with Matchbox 20). It does amuse me that he shares a name with the creator of Veronica Mars. During last week's episode, I saw a Target commercial with six of the singing Rob Thomas's face and that was really funny.

I saw Keane last weekend, and they were really good. I know there have been a lot of comparisons to Coldplay - the funny thing is I like Keane but not Coldplay. I know, I'm like the only person in the universe who isn't in love with Coldplay. I already went through this with Nirvana so I'm used to feeling left out and slightly bewildered by the rabid love. The opening act for Keane was Brendan Benson - I'd never heard of him before, but he was pretty good too, which made the show a win win situation. It's annoying to see an opening act that I don't like. The first time I saw Depeche Mode in concert, the opening act was Nitzer Ebb (who my friend described as sounding like a cat being sodomized with a synthesizer). That was an hour of my life that I'll never get back!

Look, if this is weird for you, being tutored? I don't mind helping you a little longer.
You could have sex with me if you really want to help...I guess that's a "no"?

Candygirl: you are not the only one that can't stand Rob Thomas. I have NEVER liked Matchbox 20, and I thought that the Santana song Smooth would have been a lot better without him. Also Coldplay - I don't really like them much either. Just makes me feel bad listening to it, because it's downer music, to me at least. But I do like Nirvana. I'll have to check out Keane, though - sounds like they are probably good. I don't know - I've probably already heard them on the radio, just didn't realize it.
Um, in my room, one seam is a little off and I stare at it constantly. It's, like, destroying me.

Hey Kenny that site is really cool - but what do the numbers mean? Are they ratings of some type?

Yeah Im not a huge fan of Coldplay either. But I will say that their new song on the radio is growing on me. Another band that I just don't get is Green Day - everyone I know loooves them and I can't stand them. Especially their new stuff. I think Im the only one!

schris: I'm not a fan of Green Day either much. Not this new stuff. Some of thier old stuff from Dookie is okay, but mostly I probably think that because of nostalgia of where I was in my life when it was popular.

The numbers are the number of times we've played the track or artist. I think the most interesting feature is if you click 'network' it will show you the playlists of your musical neighbors.

Patty: If Rayanne's not seeing you, and we're not seeing you, who is seeing you?
Graham: And how much of you?
Angela: Dad!
Graham: Oh, I'm sorry! I asked a question about your life, didn't I? Woah, what came over me?

My tastes in music, like me taste in books is very mood driven.

Lately I have been into Big & Rich. That lead me to Cowboy Troy. A very, very different CD of his Locomotive. Starting to grow on me.

Mainly New England rock like Buffalo Tom and Juliana Hatfield (who also made appearances in MSCL!) Actually it was because of MSCL that I heard about those bands. Heh. Also I am waiting patiently for 30 Seconds To Mars' new album, out August 16, 2005.

So, who are we looking forward to on Live 8. Don't say U2, that would be cheating as everyone likes them.
