Black Lipstick - Converted Thieves

Post by fnordboy » Jul 1st 2003, 6:14 pm

I heard a song off of the album Converted Thieves by the band Black Lipstick a few weeks back on WFMU, a local free form radio station (http://www.wfmu.org) and instantly fell in love with it. It had a nice shoegazer quality and I am a sucker for that.

So I eventually got around to picking up the album from bn.com when I was buying some books and DVDs. And I can not stop playing this album. It is hard to explain what they sound like but at moments they are a mixture of sonic youth quality feedback and distortion, post punk sensibilities, and a hint of pavement. The song that I originally heard and fell in love with (Dirges & Downers) is not like the rest of the album, and actually is now IMO one of the weaker songs on the album. My two favorite tracks so far are: "Serpentz" and "Yesterday's Horoscope Was Right".

I recommend everyone to check this band out.
