Tyler Durden wrote:The Smiths, There is a Light That Never Goes Out, dunno the album

And if a double-decker bus,
Crashes into us,
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine
That is also a fav of mine, the smiths have so many moments that it would be hard to pick out only a handful, but here is one of the most memorable and meaningful verses for me:

These Things Take Time
Oh, the alcoholic afternoons
When we sat in your room
They meant more to me
Than any, than any living thing on earth
They had more worth
Than any living thing on earth
On earth, on earth, oh ...

Mine, too. I listened to Rattle and Hum not too long ago after it sat in my CD rack gathering dust. "All I Want is You" is a really powerful song. I can remember back in high school and college when U2 was so huge. Not that I'd like to relive those days, but listening to the CD made me feel kind of nostalgic.

"Why"
(Christine McVie)
Fleetwood Mac
Mystery To Me

There's no use in crying, it's all over
But I know there'll always be another day
Well my heart will rise up with the morning sun
And the hurt I feel will simply melt away

"Did You Ever Love Me"
(Christine McVie)
Fleetwood Mac
Penguin

Why is it baby, our love just won't grow
You made me happy but time has gone by
Please leave me softly, I won't say goodbye

"Come a Little Bit Closer"
(Chrsitine McVie)
Fleetwood Mac
Heroes Are Hard To Find

Cause I remember the time
When you held me in your arms
(come a little bit closer)
And you wanted to be mine
Everything good, everything gold
And now all that's left is a sweet memory

These are some old school Mac songs. I miss Christine. Sigh.

All i want is you video

Post by Tyler Durden » Jun 14th 2003, 1:27 pm

Does anyone remember the video from 'All I Want Is You'? About the little person (is that pc?) in the circus? That had a really odd ending if you remember. I hadn't seen it for about ten years and then downloaded it and it's still brilliant. If anyone sees it, look out for the U2 cameo, where they are walking in the background.

This is a song called "Dark Warm Narcotic American Nights" and it was done by A friends band in highschool. The lyrics are catchy and it's accompanied by some jazzy bass, a little guitar picking, and good drummer.

Oh when the moon’s been a drinkin, and the stars are a twinkling,
And nobody’s in your head to do any thinking,
Those are the nights, that are nights like tonight,
when people get along….to the rhythm,…of a jazzzz song,

Well it’s under the influence, and it’s over the counter,
it’s an antidepressant that’ll give ya the blues,
I don’t mind, I like the blues.

And it works in the day time, works in the morning,
works in the evening time, works without warning,
Works best in the mean time when the liquor is spiked!

Dark Warm Narcotic American Nights.

here's a few of my favourite lines from some of the best songs ever composed:

Song-Artist-Album
Lyrics

Humankind - Grant Lee Phillips - Mobilize
"If only humankind were not so heartless now, heartless now, it's hard to love your fellow man"

Sour Times - Portishead - Dummy
"Nobody loves me it's true, not like you do"

Temptation Waits - Garbage - Version 2.0
"You come on like a drug, I just can't get enough"

This Charming Man - The Smiths - Hatful of Hollow
"Punctured bicycle, on a hillside desolate. Will nature make a man of me yet?"

Real Love - The Smashing Pumpkins - Machina 2, Rotten Apples
"Real love or is it me you're after? "

that should cover it
I'm wicked and I'm lazy....
Don't you wanna save me?

Jewel, Morning Song

Let the phone ring
Let's go back to sleep
Let the world spin outside our door
You're the only one that I want to see

Jewel, Don't

Don't try to understand me
Your hands
Already know
Too much, anyway
"I have all these dreams where I know exactly what to say. And you tell me, you know, that you forgive me."

That's "Near You Always" - one of my favorite Jewel songs. My favorite part is:

your hands are in my hair
but my heart is in your teeth baby
and it makes me want to make you near me always

Ah, yeah, thanks. I was posting at work and it didn't sound quite right.

I love her entire first album.

from Pete Yorn, "Turn of the Century"

Saw my reflection, covered in glass
How it reminds me of you
Broken like a vision, an unfinished season
Terror had struck me, but all I could see is your soft skin
And I wondered...

Inside the workhouse, you mind your own business
And I had the courage of two
And as I requested a lapse in your presence
I couldn't think of anything important to say
So I wondered
When this day will end

--------------------

And this, probably my all-time fave lyrics:

from Los Lobos "Will the Wolf Survive"

Standing in the pouring rain
All alone in a world that's changed
Running scared, now forced to hide
In a land where he once stood with pride
But he'll find his way by the morning light

Sounds across the nation
Coming from young hearts and minds
Battered drums and old guitars
Singing songs of passion
It's the truth that they all look for
The one thing they must keep alive
Will the wolf survive?

Madonna, Take a Bow

Say your lines
But, do you feel them?
Do you mean, what you say,
When there's no one around
Watching you, watching me

and

All the world is a stage
And everyone has their part
But how was I to know which way the story'd go
How was I to know you'd break...
You'd break my heart...
"I have all these dreams where I know exactly what to say. And you tell me, you know, that you forgive me."

i will remember you by sarah mclachlan

I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard

I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light

everything but the girl... dont let the tear drops rust your shining heart

Sorrow is a lonely road
Where the rain like your tears
Beats heavy on the roof above your head
Tomorrow is a lovers' town
That's been beaten down
And the hands of winter holds the life we've led

Instead of drowning in despair
For I find small comfort in a bottle
When we're apart
Don't let the teardrops rust your shining heart

I used to drive all night for you
While the children were asleep
And as the dawn broke on your room
Back into my house I'd creep
Where my husband slept alone
Of course he must have known
But we always hide the truth
For fear of losing what we own

So don't forget the words that we choose
And constantly misuse
They were written down every time we were apart
Don't let your teardrops rust your shining heart
so make the best of this test, and dont ask why
its not a question, but a lesson learned in time its something unpredictable, but in the end is right i hope you had the time of your life

Listening to a CD that I haven't listened to in awhile and had to share this:

Jim Yoshii Pile-Up - Breakdown Championship

One last chance to say all the things you wanted to.
One last chance to sue all the people you wanted to.
You ask me what’s my greatest fear.
Honey, it’s living here earning $6.50/hr. And I feel like I'm being tested.
Don't test me.

One last chance to sue all the people you wanted to.
One last chance to slander all the people you wanted to.
You ask me what’s my greatest fear.
Honey, it’s living here earning $6.50/hr.
And often when I’m sitting in my room,
I stare at my poster of Prince,
and sometimes I think of you. And I spit when I do.
I...hate...that...piece...of....me...it...looks...too...much...like...you.

You can hear a live version of the song here:

Okay, mine primarily come from two artists, so I'll have a couple of quotes from each. Sorry it isn't more spread out, but these two musicians are the only ones that really do it for me (not including instrumental bands, that is).

Neutral Milk Hotel's "The King of Carrot Flowers Part One" from the LP
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea:

And your mom would stick a fork right into Daddy's shoulder
And Dad would throw the garbage all across the floor
As we would lay and learn what each other's bodies were for

Or how about this, also from Neutral Milk Hotel, from a song called "Rubby Bulbs" that was never released on any of their CDs, but is available on a 7-inch or in various bootlegged live performances on the internet:

I need to taste your voice in my mouth
I need to taste your voice in the air
And I need to feel your skin against all that I retch out
And feel your voice all over everywhere

Granted, the next verse reveals the song to be much darker (I need to paste your skin around the mailbox/And hold the postman in your smile/I need to fill your lungs with smallpox/And fill the glow of a sick and distorted life), and on one version of the song that I've come across, it ends with And I say I want inside you/Because there is nothing on the surface/But it hurts the holes that guide you/And all your holes that hold no purpose/For me/For me... But none of this detracts from how the opening lines affect me, and, to be honest, I really like how it goes so sour.

My other favorite, Will Oldham; this is from the song "New Partner," which was released under Palace Music on the CD Viva Last Blues:

Well, I would not have moved if I knew you were here
It's some special action with motives unclear
Now you'll haunt me, you'll haunt me
'Till I've paid for what I've done
It's a payment which precludes the having of fun

And you're always on my mind (x4)
I've got a new partner riding with me
I've got a new partner now

And finally, also from Will Oldham, this time under the name Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, the song is "Raining in Darling," from the CD I See a Darkness:

It don't rain anymore, I go outdoors
Where it's fun to be, And I know you love me
I know you do

Okay, that's all for now, but I'll come back if I think of any others.
