Hey, thanks. :)

Incidentally, I'm very happy that a new Two-Disc Special Edition of True Romance is being released on DVD in late September.
What other movies do you like?
Well, I'm a bit of a film buff, so my tastes can be rather eclectic or pretty ordinary at times.

Speaking of TR, I do dig Tarantino's work. Though I'm a big fan of Martin Scorsese, with GoodFellas and Bringing Out The Dead being favourites. And here's some of my other fave films in no particular order;

This Is Spinal Tap
The Big Lebowski
Clerks
Dark City
The Breakfast Club
Wings of Honneamise
The 400 Blows
Chasing Amy
Trees Lounge
The 'burbs

Hmmm strange, I'm not usually this open on a forum.

good taste!

I'm with you on a bunch of those. Specifically:

This is Spinal Tap
Breakfast Club
Clerks

I am also quite a film junkie

My all-time favorite movie is Say Anything...huge fan of John Cusack and director Cameron Crowe.

Some of the others I love:

Reservoir Dogs
Casino
Godfather Trilogy
original Star Wars trilogy
Pretty in Pink
Sixteen Candles
The Hurricane
Saving Private Ryan
Moulin Rouge
American Beauty
Amelie
Notting Hill
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Roman Holiday
Spendor in the Grass (and anything else with Natalie Wood)

I could go on and on....

Let's keep this movie thread going....anyone, feel free to join in!

I've been meaning to see Say Anything for quite some time now. I became an instant fan of Mr Cusack after High Fidelity.

Also, your list is quite impressive, probably because I love most of those films as well. :P

In particular, The Godfather films make me wish I could have seen them on the big screen. Though, I'm glad I managed to see Apocalypse Now Redux during its limited theatrical release.

Rush right out and rent it

You must see Say Anything then. Hurry hurry! :D

High Fidelity was also great. Good use of music and narrative. And I love Jack Black's humor. He's a hoot.

Ah, I missed Apocalypse Now Redux in theaters. But you're right, there are some movies that beg to be seen on the big screen, instead on my living room tv.

Okay okay, you've convinced me. Might make an educated gamble and buy it from Amazon.

Totally agree. Jack Black is insane.

Hey SoCalledFan and ClarenceW,
For those of you who like J. Black, you should check out a little known dumb teen movie (love those) named 'Airborne'.(1993) It is a low-budget movie about a surfer dude who moves to Ohio or somewhere and enters a new high-school. Seth Green is in it. J. Black has a small role as an A-hole high school hockey player but he is hilarious! IMHO it is his best work. Good luck finding it though. It hasn't been on cable in eons. Seth Green is also a riot in this one. If you get the chance give it a look.

I love John Cusack too.

My friend gave me the Say Anything DVD for my birthday and I was cracking up at the different songs they tried before settling on "In Your Eyes." I am so conditioned to expect that song, so all the other ones caused me to roll my eyes, laugh, sigh.

If you liked High Fidelity, I highly (hee hee) recommend the book by Nick Hornby. I actually read the book before seeing the movie. If I know a book is being made into a movie, my rule of thumb is to see the movie before reading the book so that I am not disappointed in the changes. When I see the movie then read the book, it's like an upgrade because it's usually better. In this case, it was completely unintentional that I read the book then it became a movie. I was not disappointed in the movie at all, but the book is hilarious and insightful. Nick Hornby is, dare I say it, a genius.

Can I add Princess Bride to the movie list? I still love it.

with eyes like the sea before a storm...

K-man...thanks for the suggestion! I'll have to check it out, if I can find it.

Candygirl...Princess Bride...good call! :) I love that movie too.

"HelllOOO. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

-and-

"No more rhyming! And I mean it!"
"Anybody want a peanut?"

Can I play?

I agree with all of yours, and I would have to add:
The Goonies
Empire Records
Better off Dead
Some Kind of Wonderful
Almost Famous (Cameron Crowe is AWESOME)
Edward Scissorhands (Tim Burton is also awesome!)
The Shawshank Redemption
Dirty Dancing (don't tease  )
When Harry Met Sally

That's all for now. I'm sure I'll be back.

K- man, I just read your post about Airborne. I forgot all about that movie- I saw it at like 1 am last summer on Disney. And I totally forgot that Jack Black is in it. Now I need to watch it again (Is Jack Black a good enough trade-off for having to watch that annoying blonde surfer kid call everyone "bra"? I'm not so sure...but I do love Jack Black) :)

Strawberry Girl,
Personally, I liked Airborne. (I'm a sucker for dumb teen shows/movies.) I thought Seth Green did a wonderful job and was very funny. Although J. Black's part was small he was way good as a bully-jock-type. So in other words, I think the tradeoff is worth it. I just like the movie.

Seth Green is awesome. He is so funny in that understated kind of way (Can't Hardly Wait excluded). Does anyone else remember when Oz was the Rally's Cha Ching guy? Or the little brother in Can't Buy Me Love?

Classic!

:D

Oh, I think I've seen it. But it was long before I knew who Jack Black was. Seth Green was quite amusing in it.

For anyone interested, JB was also in a Ben Stiller directed pilot called Heat Vision and Jack. It was basically a Knight Rider parody, with JB being the smartest man on Earth and a former astronaut who's on the run from NASA. He's sidekick was his best friend who'd melded with his motorcycle (don't ask), and was voiced by Owen Wilson. The pilot was tacky, shameless and very funny. There are a number of bootleg copies of it floating around.

As much as I love Scorcese, I found Bringing Out the Dead to be quite the bore.

Real quick, my top 5:

This Is Spinal Tap
Ghost World
Magnolia
Stand By Me
American Beauty

There are so many others - christ, I have 40-50 DVDs - but these are the core 5 that I could watch over and over and over and over again.
