Homicide Life on the Street

Hey all,

I just thought I would start a discussion thread for one of the best shows on television.

Homicide Life on the Street.

Seasons 1 & 2 are already out on DVD. Season 3 is set for release on October 28th.

I am fortunate in that my library actually has Homicide on DVD. I have one more episode to watch before I am finished with Season Two.

So far I have been the most impressed by the episode "Black & Blue".

In this episode the pressure is on to solve the murder of a black man in the streets of Baltimore. A man apparently killed by the police. (Vividly reminds me of the real life riots here in 2001).

There is a spectacular scene between Lt. Al Giardello (played by Yahpet Kotto) and Det. Frank Pembleton (played by the masterful Andre Braugher, IMHO one the most underated actor). Giardello is convinced that drug dealer they have in custody actually killed the man in question. Pembleton is convinced that a cop did it.
Pembleton attempts to prove to Giardello that he has blinders on with regards to the police. He is convinced that Giardello does not want the killer to be a cop. So Pembleton goes into the interrogation room (AKA The Box) and gets the drugdealer to confess to the murder, a murder which Pembleton is convinced that he did not committ.
All I can say is, wow.

Great Stuff.

All I can think of is that Family Guy thing with Bert and Ernie!

He he hee, I'll repeat myself:

All the episodes had such impact. These you really got a feeling for the atrocity of murder, and the fight for justice...not just the walking through the paces you get from the Law and Order shows.

The later seasons (if I remember correctly) actually got fairly artsy. Really creative, daring and sometimes challenging. I really hope they release all the seasons.

Oh, and the MUSIC!!! It always had incredible music... The only crime show that has come close to it has been 3rd Watch, which is really good in itself (again, better than L&O and CSI).

I love Third Watch! Last night when my boyfriend started watching the season premiere, I was trying to remember what the hell happened in last season's finale - it's been a long time!

I know what you mean about music though - if I hear that trademark CSI sound one more time...

Although I saw the guy who played Malucci on ER in the premiere for Joan of Arcadia, I am still hoping that one day there will be a show called Malucci, Boscarelli, Poncharello, and Fonzarelli.

:D

Do either of these seasons have the episode where a guy gets stuck under a subway train? That was a memorable episode.

The subway episode was late in Homicide's run, either the last or second-to-last season. It was one of the best episodes.

In case you didn't notice my temporary avatar, Homicide: Life on the Street, Season 3, is now available on DVD. You might have to shop around. The nearest Best Buy and Wal Mart didn't have any in stock when I checked. I bought my copy of the set from Amazon. Enjoy!

Indeed,

I did notice your new avatar. Frankly I am envious. Season 3 is quite good. Thanks for the shopping tips. Now to empty out my couch of loose change to finance this purchase.
