Signature Backstories

This is the third "Backstories" thread, for those of us who use the signature option in our posts. I realize many of the sigs are self explanatory, but it might be interesting to know why you chose them, if they have a special meaning for you, etc.

My current line is from the brilliant, yet short-lived (sound familiar?) animated series Invader Zim. Zim is a short-statured alien sent by his leaders to claim planet Earth. He's not very good at conquering, but he does spout off some nifty threats and insults.

Prior to that, I used "Nunc Id Vides, Nunc Ne Vides", which is a crude latin translation of "Now You See It, Now You Don't". The motto of Unseen University, an institution of higher magical learning described in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. BTW, it predates Hogwarts by nearly two decades, so nyah-nyah-nyah-nah Harry Potter fans! :P

My first signature was, of course, the trademark of C. Montgomery Burns, "Excellent! It's all falling into place...". I don't have a jaden monkey like Monty's, but I've been in a few arcane rites in my time, and my friends tell me I'm quite good at the finger steepling and maniacal laughing.

Well, and all this time I thought that Zim quote was actually from Calvin & Hobbes  It just sounded like something Calvin would say in one of his adventures as Spiff...

Anyway, mine is a song lyric - 'Who's gonna stop me?' by the Delilahs. Off the top I can't remember the rest and I can't find it anywhere on the web but the next line is 'and nobody ever sold me on the idea of selling anything'. It's a good song with great lyrics, taken from one of the Cities 97 samplers albums which my cousin gave me a taped copy of.

I've got an odd feeling that my quote before that was from a Billy Pilgrim song but I can't for the life of me think what it was... it was probably from 'Get Me Out of Here' which is one of my favourite songs ever.

Mine is obvious. I laughed the last time I watched Angela say that to Brian, and I thought it would be a funny sig.

Mine is from Norman Mclean, the author of "A River Runs Through it". I'm doing the whole River Runs Throught it theme for several reasons. First, it has a distant connection to mscl, and secondly it's one of my favorite movies. Much of the river sequences were filmed 15 minutes from my house, and I love how all aspects of life can somehow be related back to fishing. The closing thoughts of the book always make me feel at ease.

"Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
I am haunted by waters"

(Oh, I added the line from Seinfeld yesterday because it popped in my head, but it's just visiting.)

Wow. You live 15 minutes from where that was filmed? The scenery is gorgeous! I always imagined what it must be like to live somewhere so beautiful. It must be incredibly humbling.

Yup, I live 15 min from the Gallatin Canyon where all the canyon shots were filmed. Interestingly the canyon Norman speaks of is about 3 hours away, but they chose not to film there, but it is very breathtaking in its own right. The Mclean house and the Presbyterian church shown in the movie are the real deal, that’s where they lived. They even used one of the old lounges in our Student Union Building in one of the scenes too. I’m also about an hour and a half from Yellowstone National Park. I love were I live and have been lucky enough to find a job here after I graduated. I could make more elsewhere, but it’s only money. An afternoon on the river makes it all worthwhile.

Here are some pictures from the canyon:

I've changed my signature a couple times. Currently, it is one of my favorite dialogue sequences from the show:
Patty: If Rayanne's not seeing you, and we're not seeing you, who is seeing you?
Graham: And how much of you?
Angela: Dad!
Graham: Oh, I'm sorry! I asked a question about your life, didn't I? Woah, what came over me?
I like how Patty and Graham are walking the tightrope dealing with Angela. They want to know what's going on in her life, but they have to be careful not to pry to hard. Graham is so funny. To me, this sequence encapsulates one of the important dynamics of the show: Angela's relationship with her parents.

Like TomSpeed, my signature is from MSCL and I thought it represented one of the major themes of the show:
Angela: Look, if this is weird for you, being tutored? I don't mind helping you a little longer.
Jordan: You could have sex with me if you really want to help...I guess that's a "no"?
After watching the season premiere of Angel last night, I considered changing it to the voicemail message at Wolfram and Hart: "You have reached ritual sacrifice. For goats, press one."

:D
