Essays and stories about being a fan

Post by Kris R » Feb 19th 2003, 10:19 pm

I'm editting a chapbook (medium length, limited-run) on fandom and what that means to people. Being a MSCL fan was v. important to me and I'd love to have stories from others. I’m mainly interested in pop culture but anything else goes – sports, math, maps, TV, Hollywood celebs, Emily Bronte. I’m looking for personal essays about being a fan – the time you followed a band or a baseball team across the country, what it was like finally meeting your idol, how a fan obsession changed your life or why math makes you swoon.

I’m also interested in more academic essays, analyzing your own experiences as a fan, the experiences of others or a relevant movie like Rock and Roll High School. If you have something to contribute which is in a less conventional form (photo essay, song, collage) then feel free to submit that. I’d prefer pieces between 1000 – 4000. Deadline June 1.
