DVD Update!

Last I heard today, the orders were rapidly approaching the 1,500 order mark, and may have already done so by the time you read this. That's in less than two weeks, and that is absolutely incredible.
We are way past the danger zone of less than 1,000 discs, so there can be little doubt that the DVD box set is happening. This is probably the first time in history that a fan site was able to drastically alter the plans of a major label and convince them to agree to such a turnaround. Major congrats to MSCL.com and Operation Life Support and all of your members.
I've been getting a whole lot of emails asking when the pre-order period ends. I will try to get an answer for you, it may be much sooner now since there were so many more orders than expected.
Finally, if you wrote to me and I haven't responded yet, I'm almost caught up and you'll get a response soon.

This is absolutely fantastic news, and I hope this means that the box sets will be shipping soon. Thank you, Jason, and, of course, thanks to Mike and the crew here as MSCL.com for making this project happen.

Au contraire. I could not pull it off when I was at BMG. It was only through growing pressure from Operation: Life Support and MSCL that BMG turned around and decided to allow the set.

Huh... I was under the impression that Operation Life Support disbanded after the series was officially canceled in '95. Was OLS behind the dvd project? Obviously this is a largely academic question, as the same fans would've signed with or without OLS backing, but I'm curious.

Maybe that's the same alternate universe where the Chevy Chase talk show ran for 6 award-winning seasons.

I think Operation Life Support changed its name to Another Universe. They took orders for items, delivered on some (like video tapes of all the episodes, T Shirts, Coffee mugs) and took the money and closed down on others (like the book).
Of course they used that money for a good cause (trying to get ABC to renew MSCL) but alas, they didn't deliver on much of what they promised.

OLS would NEVER do that to fellow fans!

But they did. They never even sent out a final "We're sorry guys, we ran out of money and can't publish the book" email. I'm sure most would have understood. Instead, they just stopped sending out emails and stopped responding to all email questions about it.
For several months they were very good about it, but then they decided to just give it up and forget about it.

My point is that AU is a BUSINESS. They exist only to sell merchandise which means that their first concern should be to deliver said merchandise to those who ordered it. Instead, they have lied to us, deceived us, neglected to inform customers of numerous delays, stolen money from us as eight month interest free loans, etc.
When a fan club runs out of money, it's a little bit different.

moviezzz: Perhaps you are referring to "Fighting For Life" aka "Angela's World", which was never published as a book.
May 25, 1995
First scheduled Shipping/Publication date for "Fighting For Life" - The OLS Book. The release gets postponed.
September 1995
The release of OLS: "Fighting For Life"/"Sustaining Life" gets once again postponed due to a pending lawsuit.
That was from "The so-called timetable" in the Encyclopedia at this site. The timetable doesn't mention the outcome of the suit. You can read the rough draft of Angela's World in the Library, also conveniently located here at MSCL.com.
That said, I'm still just wondering what Jason was referring to in that old quote.
