There have been some recent attempts at posting personal contact information. I cannot be on the board all day to pull them down. I recommend the addition of a few more moderators.

posting personal information is not cool. would there be any way to use filters to prevent the personal information of the key players? or to have an email sent to a moderator when someone tries to do it?

btw, some threads still need cleaning like #1864

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. We could also use moderators for the other subforums. Any volunteers?

No, sadly not. Address information can be posted in such various ways, there's no way to check automatically every posting for the occurence of something that may look like phone numbers.

I will admit that I am on the forum every single day now (I almost feel guilty saying that, even though I know that MSCL is worthy of a daily obsession!) so I would be willing to moderate as well. Luckily I have a job where I am allowed to be on the internet so I usually log in when I get to work and then leave the window open and then check in every hour or so. Of course my OCD requires me to log in when I get home too. You know, just in case something interesting comes up. I figure at least I'm not washing my hands 1000 times a day and rubbing the skin raw, right? It's a healthy obsession.

I was just going to nominate you. I'd do it, cause I'm on here all the time as well, but I don't want the responsibility/power. Candygirl's one of the 'oldies' (at least compared to a lot that post here). She'd be my nom.

Thanks andrew! When I logged in today I realized that I totally forgot about my MSCL birthday yesterday. I'll have to throw myself a party - I think I'll celebrate by...watching more MSCL! The last episode I watched was Resolutions so next up is Betrayal The funny thing is (and this will be yet another sign of my OCD), I actually registered at the beginning of 2001, but when I graduated from college in June I lost my email account and hence the email with my MSCL password that I had saved there (I was too lazy to ever change the password). I contented myself with lurking until I received my unofficial soundtrack from Patrick (OldGuy) in December. I was so grateful and it was so good that I had to register myself so that I could post my thanks. (the rest, of course, is history - my OCD compelled me to post and post and post and post)

That said, I don't think moderators should be chosen based on seniority (or excessive verbosity ). Sascha & Co. should choose someone who they think will do the job well. I do appreciate that you thought of me though andrew!

Well I'm in all the forums everyday so if i could be of assistance, i would gladly help out.

Thanks everyone for the offers. I haven't contacted anyone of those who volunteered yet, I decided to post a short summary of what we're looking for first:


We're looking for about 4-5 moderators:
One for the "The Show" forum,
one for the "Afterlife" forum,
and two or three for the new DVD forums.


There are already four volunteers, so I guess it won't be a problem to fill the positions.

Why "new" DVD-forums?
Well, we will split the DVD forum into two sections: One for general (technical) talk about the DVDs itself and how to get them. The second forum will focus on customer problems with AU's DVD release. This isn't going to be a general AU complaint forum, there are now other sites on the web to discuss other AU stuff. This AU forum at mscl.com will only focus on problems relating to orders of the MSCL DVD set.

The job of the moderators is mainly to watch the forums closely for any violations of our forum rules and help forum newbies if they have questions. Moderators can close and edit inappropriate topics and postings (such as the famous "Socrates"-postings or if someone posts personal information etc.). They can move off-topic postings to other forums or make interesting postings sticky etc. The technical process of actually moderating a posting or topic is very easy, you don't need any technical skills as webmaster or something like that. Most of the time you'll be probably just using the forum as you do now.

In case of the moderators of the new "AU DVD complaint forum" (or whatever it will be called): It would be helpful (but not necessary) if the future moderator(s) of that forum are interested in helping organize the efforts to remember AU of their duties to refund the overcharges and ship the remaining bonus stuff as Jason outlined here.

Of course, you won't be left alone with your task. Me and the other administrators will watch the forum as closely as before and support you. If you have a problem and don't know what to do, you can always PM me.

I will leave this topic open until tomorrow (I don't have much time today to organize anything) so if anyone else is interested in becoming a moderator, just post a note.

Good question. Looks like Emma hasn't been around since August 2000, when we created the swedish forum on her suggestion. I'll try to contact her, but guess I have to remove her moderator rights

And I'll still be here, but I do think that the DVDs and the AU Problems merit different forums. Maybe a DVD forum will actually be fun to read without all of the Ross Rojek inspired bile.

The other thing that we can do is create a moderator's mail distribution. That way if somebody finds personal information on the board, they can email (example) moderators@mscl.com, and the first person to get the email can remove the offending post. That way, there is a good chance that somebody will be around when such posts occur.

I'd love to work the Afterlife of whatever new part of the DVD section you'd need a hand in, if the position is available.
