Conspiracy theory: AU will ship, then "process" re

Post by Lurker1999 » Nov 18th 2002, 10:51 pm

Let's have some fun with this one...

AU clearly has nothing to gain from refunding individual customers that have cancelled since those customers will likely never shop with them again. While there's a lot of pissed off people on this board I doubt many of them have filed a complaint with the authorities (their credit card company, IFCC, California AG, their own AG, etc.). That's just the way of web bulletin boards. It's really easy to work yourself up and type up a heated reply, yet when it comes time to put up or shut up few take the time to set pen to paper and fire of that angry follow-up letter.

AU knows this behavior. RR is if anything a masterful con artist that knows how to read people/mobs. So they plan on keeping the sheep they have left by devoting all their personnel to shipping the DVD sets to the remaining customers. That will buy them months to cough up the rest of the promised merchandise (lunchbox, gift certificate, etc.) and will make it nearly impossible for any of these individuals to get money back since they've accepted a partial shipment of their order. So that leaves AU a captive audience.

Then using the proceeds from fully paid advance purchases of the Twilight Zone sets they'll refund selected individuals that just won't go away hoping those individuals will in turn post on here saying they have gotten a refund. That'll pacify the rest of the optimistic suckers and leave RR with a nice fat profit. In the meantime more naive individuals will place orders and MSCL will soon fade from the very short attention span of the web.

Long live RR.

All those problems that people are finding with the discs, are in actual fact Subliminal Messages inserted by AU at their warehouse, that is telling us to buy that $400 Twilight Zone box set.
The sun's outside the window trying to show us we're all being stupid. All you have to do is look around.

I hope Ross pulls this stunt; it's just the thing that will land him in jail. We have 3rd party confirmation (via drygrass.com site) that we've cancelled our orders. We have clear evidence that a representative of AU accepted our cancellation. The UPS tracking numbers would provide clear evidence that Ross shipped the sets anyway. It's a slam-dunk case, even more airtight than the doublecharges. THe evicence would show clear intent to defraud.

BTW, Ross sending you a set in no way changes the fact that he owes you a refund. The set would be unsolicited, and you get to not only keep it, but get your refund back too. Someone else posted the relevant law; search the archives for it.

This, of course, won't happen. What will happen is that Ross will keep our money, and nothing more. There will be no real investigation, since AU is not big enough to care about. No DA is going to care about a bunch of comic-book geeks (as he will see it) getting shafted over a dvd set. There's not enough money, sex, or violence here to spark any interest. If any credit-card people start complaining, Ross will just close AU and reopen under a different name; corporate reorganization is so easy these days.

Even if there was an investigation and trial, it would be a criminal trial. Every last cent CMIH has will be spend on lawyers and court costs. Ross declares bankruptcy and we get nothing.

As for the lunchbox and bonus disc; you'll get those. The lunchbox is already paid for, and it'll be cheaper to ship them out than to dispose of them. The bonus disc will be made as cheaply as possibe, and will contain only a fraction of what it was supposed to. There will be no t-shirt and no gift certificate since they weren't part of the original deal.

Our only consolation is that Ross has driven CMIH into the ground. This twilight zone set won't sell simply because it is way to expensive. Fans who want all the episodes will already have all the episodes; they've been out for years. And as we've seen, Ross is already making serious mistakes with that one (using DVD-R which isn't 100% compatible with all players); so that will be a disaster. But none of that will help up, bacause when CMIH and AU go bankrupt, we will lose any chance of getting refunds.

Ross gets our money; we get nothing; and any chance of another fan-supported DVD set are shot to hell.
