I didn't like how it he had the typical effeminate gay role. It didn't do him justice. What was so wonderful about the character Rickie, and his performance of it was that he was just a normal teenager who happened to have issues with fitting in because he was gay, but he wasn't over the top flamboy...

and I actually really liked it overall.
It's a shame it wasn't picked up by a network.

Definitely slow so far,
and definitely not comparable to MSCL.
