Re: Discussion for Episode 6: the Substitute

"The Substitute" is actually my least favorite episode of the series. I don't hate it, but I really don't like the main plot. I do like Angela's poem, though. I think she has a future as a writer/poet. And I wonder what the discarded "Oak Tree" poem was about. I also liked that she stood for her pr...

Re: Sharon and Brian

I've always wondered just how long Brian had feelings for Angela, how long Sharon knew, and why she never told Angela. He liked since sometime before the series started, when she and Sharon were still best friends. Did Sharon not know then? Did she only become aware in Episode 2, when she notices B...

Re: Speaking Sharon

I think most people can agree that Sharon's role in the first half of the series was to represent Angela's childhood. She was perfection, straight forward, uncomplicated, the opposite of rebellion--which is what Angela was trying to do--break free of her old life and find herself (with Rayanne's he...

Re: Discussion for Episode 4: Father Figures

...it's not until she sees Graham flirting with Rayanne, who is even younger than "the girl" he was "talking" to, that she recalls how much she distrusts him now. Wow, I never thought Graham was flirting with Rayanne. He was being very friendly, but he was with Sharon as well, and I never thought h...

Re: Discussion for Episode 4: Father Figures

And why were they stupid enough to walk right in front of her house where he parents could see her?? I'm surprised the parents didn't think more of the fact that she ended up hanging with Brian in his sweater instead of going to the Dead concert. Being a Brian champion, I think Angela was connectin...

Re: Dissecting Danielle

Thanks for the post, Cami A. Danielle is an interesting character on the show. She is a bridge to Angela's past and Graham and Patty's future. One wonders if Patty and Graham try to correct their perceived mistakes raising Angela in their dealings with Danielle. Would they give Angela more freedom? ...

Thank you for the pictures!

One thought came to my mind: I want it. The fact that I am rapidly approaching 40 years old probably has nothing to do with my wanting it.

Re: New book of essays on MSCL!

I'm reading Dear Angela now. Well, I've read the introduction and am reading the first article. I have to admit that it has been many years since I've read academic texts. The vocabulary and concepts the writers use seem to be a bit over my head. I'm going to try to stick with it.

Re: 2007 Region 1 Complete Set Rerelease (ShoutFactory)

I devoured the DVD set in a three day viewing marathon. I plan on going through the set again at a slower pace and rereading our forum episode discussions. I've read some of posts again already. Boy, I had a lot of opinions! All of the episode discussions are really good. Anyone new to the forum sho...

Re:

I fear that part of the problem here is that most of us are so over-familiar with the 19 stories, by now, that it's easy to have elaborate mental lists of what we'd like to have expanded upon or explained. No commentaries will ever fulfill such checklists of ours. Those making them know little to n...

Re: 2007 Region 1 Complete Set Rerelease (ShoutFactory)

So, I came home yesterday from a long day at work to find the DVD set on my doorstep -- my sister had bought it for me. (Who knew getting MSCL on DVD could ever be so easy  ) I love all the pictures in the booklet and the packaging! Looking closer at the packaging, it seems that they tried...

Re: 2007 Region 1 Complete Set Rerelease (ShoutFactory)

It is interesting hearing the actors speculate on what the future might have had in store for their characters. Both Bess and Tom speculate that Patty and Graham's marriage would have been challenged, if not die. Bess speculates that Patty would have had to sell Wood and Jones Printing and commit to...
