It's funny that you mentioned two Cameron Crowe movies but left off Say Anything, which also has a really good commentary. It's Crowe, John Cusack, and Ione Skye, and, for some reason, they start it half an hour before the movie starts, so for the first 30 minutes, you are just looking at stills fro...

I love Jesus

The commentary with Burr Steers and Kieran Culkin on Igby Goes Down is like that, too. They describe the on-screen action, make sound effects when necessary, and occasionally make a comment on how tired they were that day, or how much ice cream Claire had to eat. Somehow, though, that commentary is ...

I don't know if anyone cares much about it anymore, seeing as how old these posts are, but I saw this movie at the London Film Festival about a month ago. It was directed by Thomas Vinterberg, who was one of the creators of the Dogme 95 movement, and directed the best Dogme film, Festen (or The Cele...

I've never listened to any Oliver Stone commentaries, on account of the fact that he is a total douche. I loved Natural Born Killers, though, so maybe I should give it a shot. I've heard before that the Trey Parker and Matt Stone commentary on Cannibal! is great, but I still haven't heard it. I look...

I tried unsuccessfully to quote grim4746 and fnordboy, but I kept screwing it up, so I'll post my reply quote-free and figure it out some other time. Right now I really have to pee. Okay, this is what would have been under a quote of grim4746 and fnordboy's mention of Neutral Milk Hotel: You guys sh...

DVD commentaries

I just got finished watching the Criterion Collection release of Steve Soderbergh's Traffic with commentary by producers Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick (it is one of three seperate commentary tracks on the disc). They share the commentary with another producer and two other guys, so they don't get...

All the Real Girls

Looking through all of the old posts, I'm surprised to see that no one has brought up All the Real Girls. I think that it is the best film of 2003 so far, and I have seen more than 100 films released in 2003. It especially seems of interest to the MSCL crowd, in that they are similar in tone, but th...

Tacos

Weird. I figured that the Cycle would be caught in some DVD-release Neverland for some time, especially with the release of The Order from Cremaster 3 (why did they release it like that, anyway?). Regarding images from the Cycle that occasionally appear in my head unannounced: the vaginal table grap...

I would like very much to get in touch with the instructor of the course that this thread is in regards to. Can anyone help me on this one? It's for school, if that gives my request any legitimacy.

Cremaster 2 was just too noisy and slow. The only part that I found visually interesting in it was where the guy was glopping vaseline onto the string in the car tube thing. I haven't seen them in a little over a month, and as a result, my memory is a little too fuzzy to give you a very specific ans...

Nachos

Yeah, I saw them all in one day too, in numerical order, back to back to back to back to back. It was a good day. I liked Cremaster 1 the best, then 4, then 3, then 5, then 2.

And comparing them to Tool music videos is a serious disservice to the films.

Sick

I see that it has been two weeks since the post (I'm catching up, sorry), but I'd like to commend fnordboy on his want of the Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist DVD. I think that it is the single best documentary ever made (with Crumb coming in a close second), but I can't help...
