angela's views on love has anyone seen or read anne of green gables? you know the scene when she accidentally forgets to cover the pudding because she used the cheese cloth as a veil and was pretending to be a nurse who was nursing a dying soldier? the end result is quite funny - a mouse drowns in ...

good question, tomspeed. i think that brian is a very smart kid, and i think that he'll eventually find coping skills to deal with profs who do not suit him, but for the time being.... vic represents creative thought, marginal thought, always different and sometimes not so safe. i think that brian h...

a question for everyone: is the LIT worthy of confiscation? like i said in an earlier post,we were allowed to publish that sort of stuff at our high school. i do not think that the haiku was that graphic.... at least not any more graphic than some of the novels that are part of the english canon! (d...

tomspeed - i have to say that i still agree with megs about angela's name and whether or not vic knew it. i think that he probably had enough short-term memory to get through a whole day at liberty remembering everyone's name, but i think it was a true mistake when he called her angela. maybe it was...

megs/tomspeed: i think that vic does not know angela's name. i am not saying that this shows the definitively LOW level of person that he is.... but it does show that making a true connection with his students is not one of his priorities. i agree that he tosses those suggestions out about dropping ...

why doesn't foster suspend angela? okay, i do not know about you guys, but my high school (granted, i grew up in a very liberal city) published a lit magazine with all sorts of stuff in it about sex and drugs and whatever kids wanted to write about. the entries were all overseen by a teacher who se...

ah! correction! i meant that patty and graham were 14 in '68, not 18! sorry! what i meant there is that 14/15 yr olds can sneak off to concerts. they can have sit-ins at their high schools, and they certainly have older siblings/friends who were prob. draft age.

i agree that vic shakes thing up a bit by calling on kids in the back and not putting up with mediocre work. he is hoping that by ruffling everyone's feathers, he makes the kids who have something to say feel more inclined to say it and to say it well. in defense of other teachers, at liberty, thoug...

about the sixties.... one of my parents was born in '48 and one in '51. they are were both serious hippies. sure, they may not have been draft-age during the war protests, but may mom (born in '48) recalls holding martin luther king's hand during a march. she also witnessed a black panther related ...

what's vic's deal anyway? vic is a really important character in the series. i agree with all of you who have mentioned that BF did the right thing by making him flawed instead of making him this god-like teacher who would do no wrong. he is the catalyst that makes angela begin to question her surr...

why vic leaves a day later vic quits a different day than the distribution/confiscation of the lit because it's not the lit that makes vic leave. foster is probably HOPING that something comes up that he can use against vic, but he would never fire a teacher for trying to get the kids to express th...

how did no one notice jordan's disability? refer to my following post. i think jordan has gotten by on his good looks and charm and apparent indifference. people (including vic, at first) assume that jordan is too smart for his own good, and THAT'S why he is so lazy. and to digress for a second: jo...

lots of great stuff has been said already. i hope i do not sound redundant! rickie and vic's socks i agree, tomspeed. i think rickie notices the socks because he is noticing someone who drives outside of the lines, however slightly. i remember purposely wearing mis-matched socks in high school and c...
