me too, please

I can't believe it's taken me this long to give up on AU...I WANTED that bonus disk and lunchbox, damnit...but I'm ordering through Amazon. If you send me a Share the Love, I'll pass it on to someone else. Thanks.

I'm NOSPAMewf204@nyu.eduNOSPAM (take the part inside the NOSPAMs, obviously)

I agree

I agree. It is incredibly tempting to try to resolve everything in your Episode 20, but it feels to me like cheating. The show's writers built up some of these conflicts over several episodes--in the case of the basic Angela-Brian-Jordan relationships, over the entire series. To try to resolve that ...

Re: so-called Angels

I don't buy at all that they were leaving it ambiguous in either episode, for the reasons explained (the flower, which she hadn't seen before, wa a coincidence? Female intuition??). Besides, you see the dumb old angel's wings at the end, in a shot that isn't from the perspective of either Angela or ...

Re: Buffalo Gals (reply to above)

Well, "And dance by the light of the moon" is the theme for Bedford Falls Production Company. It follows all Bedford Falls productions (try Once and Again, currently on ABC), not just MSCL. I don't actually think MSCL was inspired by It's a Wonderful Life, although I admit I have no actual way of kn...

Re: so-called Angels

I hate that goddamn angel, because it takes me out of what is otherwise an incredibly powerful and moving episode, since I can't believe in the dumb old thing. Plus, why does Juliana Hatfield talk in that irritating, wispy way? I think she may be trying for ethereal, but it sounds quite off to my ea...

Re: Nostalgia

As one person observed, MSCL does get a lot of little things right. Some of Angela's little voice-over observations are really dead-on. The little asides Patty and Graham make--"Amish Mom," "Get your own," and one billion others--are often brilliant. Of course MSCL is not always realistic in the pra...

Re: One further thought -- The impact of MSCL

I really agree with this. Of course I remember many amazing moments with all the teenage characters in MSCL, but the older I get (I'm 18 now, and I've been watching, discussing, and thinking about the show on and off for nearly 5 years) the more I identify with the adult characters. Patty and Graham...

Re: Suggestion about the message board

Well, I know it's not a perfect split, but I don't think it's that hard to have separate sections for MSCL Analysis and Miscellaneous Discussion (factual questions about the show, the DVDs, the website or whatever else). In fact, as time went on, depending on the volume each of those got, they might...

Re: Jodie Barsh

I agree that I don't think Rayanne and Angela reconcile quickly or easily, though I do think it happens. And I see what Ken is saying about Rayanne not learning her lesson, but I also feel like this underestimates Rayanne in her pivotal scenes towards the end of Betrayal a bit. Rayanne is still, IMH...

Re: Fan Fic Writing Process

Yeah, I really like Angela's World. It, and some discussions on mail-list's MSCL mailing list and the Netcom list which preceded it (I've been on the list on-and-off for 5 years, so I've seen a lot of different takes on MSCL) have helped me cement my ideas and consider exciting new ones a LOT. Somet...

Re: Jodie Barsh

I *really* like the idea of Rayanne's having slept with Jodie Barsch's boyfriend. Here are some thoughts I have on the matter: <p>1. That's a little different from how Sharon puts it in the Pilot--of course, it could be that Sharon, far removed from the story, is repeating an inaccruate, gossipicize...

Suggestion about the message board

This general discussion board is a bit tough to navigate, because there are so many posts about so many different subjects. Perhaps it would be easier if it were split into MSCL Analysis (in English) and MSCL Factual Questions (in English) - with the latter being about things like the DVDs, what epi...

Re: Fan Fic Writing Process

Thanks for the advice. We're mostly just writing the kind of episode 20 we wish there had been, I think. Here's another question I've been idly pondering: to what extent do you think fan fic writers should feel free to incorporate new things into their episodes? e.g., reading Shobi's, he uses a lot ...

Fan Fic Writing Process

How do people go about writing fan fic? I just started one with my best friend. We made a general outline of what we expected to happen in the series (later, when we added more things and thought about this more completely after having written several scenes, we realized our original long-term outli...
