Once and Again

OK... I may be the only one interested in the new show from MSCL producers.
Really, I'm not that old... only in my 30's... BUT: I was immensely impressed
with the first airing of the new "Once and Again."
Much like the first time I saw "My So Called Life," at first I didn't know exactly
how to evaluate this show... I had no reference in which to compare... which
makes it rather difficult to evaluate the first show. All I can say is that it was
nothing like anything I have ever seen on television before. Actually, it was
nothing like anything I have ever seen on television... or movies... period.
Which is not to say the show was perfect. I think the acting could be a little
better. But I was floored by the dialogue (and admittedly I was drawn in by
the music from... none other than the same bloke who did the MSCL music).
In short, I think the show takes television to a whole new level... which, unfortunately,
television audiences probably aren't ready for. I loved it. It was totally original
(except for the obvious allusions to "My So Called Life").
I probably can't give a completely subjective review at this time... It might take
a little time before I have a fully rationale view of the show. But I will conclude
with this: The first episode of "Once and Again" was the best thing I've seen
on TV since MSCL... No doubt about it. It was the first time since MSCL's
original airings that I was totally floored by a show (I mean, I had nothing
in which to compare the show, nothing in which to say --- "It's worse than this",
"It's better than this", etc. Frankly, I don't know if the show is realistic.
Who would know, except a small group of people under similar circumstances?
All I know is, I was totally fascinated for 1 hour.
