ANGELA: Um--(softly so her mother doesn't hear) I'm sorry, but I can't. My ...father...
wants me to take the bus.
JORDAN: (a little hurt and confused) Oh, okay. Whatever.
ANGELA: So..so I'll see you later.
JORDAN: (Walking away) Whatever.
A few minutes later Angela goes to the bus stop where Brian is waiting.
Brian tries, unsuccessfully, not to look uncomfortable.
ANGELA: (smiles, a little uncomfortable herself) Hi.
BRIAN: Hi.
They stand in uncomfortable silence. Brian thinks, then opens his
schoolbag and hands Angela her atlas.
BRIAN: Um...here's your atlas. I didn't really need it.
ANGELA: You didn't? Then why did you borrow it?
BRIAN: (Works up his courage) I--I was going to tell you
something, but I..I chickened out.
ANGELA: (Becoming interested) What? What were you going to tell
me?
BRIAN: (pushes himself) That I...that I *love* you Angela...
that I've always loved you.
ANGELA: (Shocked, says in small, touched voice) Oh, Brian...
Suddenly, the bus shows up.
